There are two products combined in Ultracet, which each act in different ways:
- Acetaminophen is both an analgesic, or pain reliever, and an antipyretic, or fever-reducer. This medication relieves mild to moderate levels of pain by raising the body's pain threshold. It lowers a fever by helping the body to get rid of excess heat.
- Tramadol is also an analgesic. Research suggests that it relieves pain in two ways. First, it interferes with chemicals in the brain and spinal cord that help to send pain signals. Second, it reduces the intensity of any pain signals that do get through.
The pain relieving effects of the two drugs found in Ultracet offer significant benefits over either product being used separately.
With Ultracet, people start feeling relief more quickly, and that relief lasts longer.
